Fred Snodgrass, the center fielder for New York's National League club, is the subject of this glass negative, made by the Bain News Service, a photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of current events. Snodgrass played for the Giants from 1908 through 1915 and is best remembered for dropping a fly ball in the tenth inning of Game 10 of the 1912 World Series against Boston, an error that became known as the "Snodgrass muff." The record dates the negative to 1911, while the caption cards say 1912, and later research by the Society for American Baseball Research refined the title and date.
