Pitcher Doc Crandall and outfielder Fred Snodgrass, both of the New York Giants, are pictured together at the Polo Grounds in this negative, dated to 1912. Snodgrass is remembered for the 1912 World Series, when a dropped fly ball in the tenth inning of Game 8 against the Boston Red Sox became known as "Snodgrass's Muff." The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made the negative, and its pictures of ballplayers from this period show how the sport was covered for newspapers of the time.
