The title names a place rather than a procession: the Parade in Ross-on-Wye, a Herefordshire market town where the River Wye curves past the town's edge. The picture was made by the photochrom process, a Swiss method that printed color images from several stone or metal plates, each inked in a different hue. Detroit Publishing Co. sold photochrom prints in the United States, and this one comes from its 1905 catalog of English views, number 10942. The catalog dates it to the 1890s, when such scenic prints were popular with travelers and armchair tourists who wanted to see distant places in color.
