This portrait shows Quentin Roosevelt, the youngest son of Theodore Roosevelt, in 1901, the year his father became president after William McKinley's assassination and the family moved into the White House. Frances Benjamin Johnston, a leading photographer of the period who often worked with public figures and documented life at the White House, made the picture, which is held in her collection at the Library of Congress. Quentin was only a small boy at the time, and he later became a pilot in World War I, dying in France in 1918.
