Quentin and Archie Roosevelt, the two youngest sons of President Theodore Roosevelt, appear together in this 1902 portrait, a year after McKinley's assassination brought their father to the White House. Frances Benjamin Johnston, one of the leading photographers of the period, made many portraits of the Roosevelt family during these years. Images like this one of the president's children helped shape a public picture of the White House as a family home, which was part of Roosevelt's carefully cultivated image as a vigorous, domestic father.
