Filed under the cruiser *Cincinnati*, this glass negative most likely shows the armored cruiser *Tennessee*, which was commissioned in 1906, so the title appears to be a misidentification. The plate is broken and has been taped to a second sheet of glass, a repair that shows how fragile these negatives were after years of handling. The Detroit Publishing Company made views of ships, cities and landscapes across the United States, and its numbered plates now help historians date and trace the firm's work.
