Cincinnati's hillside inclines carried riders and cars up slopes too steep for ordinary streets, and this view focuses on the trestle structure that supported the track as it climbed. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made thousands of western and eastern views around 1890 to 1910, often photographed such engineering works as examples of the city's growth. The image was made on a large glass dry plate, a common method of the period that captured fine detail in the framework and the lay of the land.
