Among the foreign-visitor prints in Utagawa Yoshitora's series, this sheet is titled for Americans and shows a Western woman riding sidesaddle in dress that would have looked strange to Japanese viewers. Matsushima Seikichi carved the blocks, and the record credits Kanagaki Robun (1829–1894) with the accompanying text. Its seal date falls in a rooster year, around 1861, when Yokohama had recently opened to foreign trade, and prints like this one presented foreign residents as curiosities for a public eager for news from abroad.
