South Terminal Station in Boston was a rail hub on the city's south side, and this c1899 view comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely to document American places for sale as postcards and prints. The company's large collection, now held by the Library of Congress, captures how railroad stations looked at the turn of the twentieth century, when rail travel was the main way people moved between cities. Because the caption card is old and unverified, the exact vantage point and the people pictured are best read from the image itself.
