The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, and this view takes in the full pedestal along with the broad stone steps that lead up to it. The statue was a gift from the people of France to the United States, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and dedicated in 1886. Its copper skin had weathered to the green patina seen today, and a sepia tone like this one tends to flatten that color into a warm brown, which makes the monument's scale and the architecture around its base easier to read.
