The unicorn is what sets this color lithograph apart from other posters for the Polish General Exhibition, titled here in French as "Exposition générale polonaise." The 1929 exhibition, held in Poznań, presented the young Polish state, which had regained independence in 1918 after more than a century of partition among its neighbors. Designed by E. Bartłomiejczyk and printed in Bydgoszcz by the Biblioteka Polska graphic workshop, the poster shows how interwar Polish artists used bold graphic design to present national life to visitors at home and abroad.
