Here the Eiffel Tower rises above a fountain on the grounds of the Exposition Universelle, with the iron lattice set against the water. The tower was built for the 1889 world's fair and quickly became the city's most recognizable landmark, and the 1900 exposition brought crowds back to the same part of Paris. The print is a photochrom, a color process developed by the Photochrom Company that built up an image from several lithographic stones, giving tourist views of the period their soft, painted look.
