This hand-colored lithograph gives an official bird's-eye view of the Exposition Universelle of 1867, laid out across the Champ de Mars in Paris. The fair ran from spring to autumn of 1867 under Napoleon III, showcasing industrial and artistic work from many nations at a time when Paris was being remade by Haussmann's boulevards. The print was drawn by Eugène Cicéri and Philippe Benoist and printed by Lemercier, and it was issued through the Goupil firm in Paris, Berlin, and New York. Its aerial perspective shows how the fair's great oval exhibition hall and its surrounding pavilions were arranged, a plan that was widely circulated as a souvenir of the event.
