Yosemite Fall, which the title gives as 2,634 feet high, is shown here as seen from the head of the valley, a viewpoint that lets the full drop of the falls register above the valley floor. This stereograph card is numbered 1222 and belongs to a series of Yosemite Valley views issued by the publisher William Isaac Marshall, who sold scenic cards of the valley to a public eager to see the park's landmarks. Stereo cards like this were viewed through a hand-held stereoscope, which gave the cliffs and falls a three-dimensional depth that flat prints could not match.
