Few posters of the First World War speak as directly to a sailor's family as this one, which asks the viewer to look after the families of men at sea under the banner of the Navy Relief Society. Its caption, "Look after my folks," appears with the artist's name, Frank Brangwyn, A.R.A., and the note that the Society cares for the Navy's widows and orphans. The poster was printed by the American Lithographic Co. of New York around 1917, when the United States had entered the war and war-related fundraising appeals were everywhere. Brangwyn was a British painter and illustrator, and his bold, graphic style gives the sailor an emotional weight that words alone could not carry.
