Market Street in Louisville, Kentucky, is the subject here, and the left-hand building carries the sign for the Louisville National Banking Company, which anchors the view to a specific business block. The photograph was made on an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate sometime between 1900 and 1910, when the Detroit Publishing Company was producing large-format views of American cities and selling them as colorful prints. Streetcar tracks in the subject list point to the electric trolley lines that by then carried much of the city's daily traffic. The plate's cracked upper right corner and its later gift to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949 are part of its physical history.
