Cape Sparbo on Devon Island was the campsite where Dr. Frederick Cook and his party stayed for 100 nights while returning from the North Pole, and this hand-colored lantern slide records a musk ox hunt carried out there. Made by the Chas. Beseler Co. of New York around 1908, it was later reproduced in Cook's 1911 book *My Attainment of the Pole*, opposite page 384. Cook's claim to have reached the pole was disputed at the time and is not accepted by most historians, so the picture is best read as part of his own account of the journey.
