The Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County, Virginia, is a limestone arch spanning Cedar Creek, and this lithograph presents it as a set piece of the state's scenery. The print is based on a painting by Edward Beyer, a German-born artist who traveled Virginia in the 1850s, and it was published in his *Album of Virginia* around 1858. Thomas Jefferson once owned the site, and it drew tourists long before photography became common, so views like this one helped shape how many Americans pictured the state. The record's catalog notes are old and not fully verified, so details of the printing house and the original edition are worth checking against a reference copy.
