Under the Natural Bridge shows the limestone arch that spans Cedar Creek in Rockbridge County, a formation rising roughly 215 feet above the stream. The site drew travelers and surveyors long before it became a tourist destination, and Thomas Jefferson, who owned the land for a time, wrote about it in his *Notes on the State of Virginia*. Visitors of the 19th century often walked the path beneath the span to look up at its curved underside, a view that still conveys how the creek slowly carved the rock over immense spans of time.
