A motorboat outing aboard the *Carin II*, bound for the Darss peninsula on Germany's Baltic coast, is the subject here, dated August 11, 1938. The yacht took its name from Hermann Göring's first wife, Carin, who had died in 1931. The record also names Italo Balbo, the Italian aviator and Fascist official, which places the scene among the social occasions that linked Nazi leaders with their Italian counterparts in the late 1930s. Such pictures show how officials presented leisure and diplomacy at the time.
