Hermann Göring is shown on a visit to the Rheden mine in November 1935, where the record describes a descent into the shaft followed by a speech to the workforce. In 1935 Göring was one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany, and the regime was pressing for greater output of coal and ore to support rearmament, so such inspections doubled as public displays of its commitment to heavy industry. The picture comes from a photo album of Göring's own activities for July through December 1935, which makes it a useful record of how he presented himself to working people that year.
