Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt appears here as a teenager on the cover of *Leslie's Weekly* in January 1902, a few months after her father, Theodore Roosevelt, took office following William McKinley's assassination. Born in 1884, she lost her mother, also named Alice Hathaway Lee, within days of her birth, and she was raised largely by her father and her stepmother, Edith. Halftone reproduction let weekly magazines like *Leslie's* print photographs on their covers, which made images of the presidential family familiar to a wide readership. The picture comes from the Frances Benjamin Johnston Collection at the Library of Congress.
