A horse-drawn jaunting car, a light two-wheeled vehicle with passengers seated back-to-back along the sides, is the focus here, with its driver handling the reins on a dirt road. Jaunting cars were most closely associated with Ireland, where they were a common sight for hire in towns and at tourist routes from the 1800s into the early 1900s. Pictures like this one help show how such vehicles were used for everyday travel and sightseeing before motor cars became common, and they are worth studying for the details of harness, seating and the rough roadway itself.
