Among the warships in the 1899 naval parade in New York was the cruiser *Chicago*, recorded on a large glass negative that September. The parade welcomed Admiral George Dewey home after his victory at Manila Bay in 1898, and the vessels were arranged for his review. The negative is possibly the work of Edward H. Hart and belongs to the Detroit Publishing Company, whose large-format views documented American cities, landscapes and public events around the turn of the century.
