This glass negative captures a girls' soccer game, a subject less often seen in photographs from the late 1910s than boys' sports. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that documented the city and its surroundings in the early twentieth century, likely made it between 1918 and 1920, when organized athletics for girls were expanding in schools and recreation programs. The title comes from the company's own notes and has not been independently verified, and faint streaks from the aging glass coating are visible in the original.
