This glass negative shows a girls' soccer game, a sport still unusual for young women in the United States around 1918 to 1920. The title comes from data written by the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio, but the cataloguers flag it as unverified, so the exact team and location remain uncertain. Organized sports for girls were expanding in the years after the First World War, and in Britain the Dick, Kerr Ladies had drawn large crowds to women's matches. The glass plate format preserves fine detail, though the record notes streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coating.
