Titled for the Mack Sennett girls, this glass negative records the young women who appeared in the slapstick comedies made at Sennett's Keystone studio in Los Angeles, where the so-called bathing beauties became a popular fixture of silent film. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm known for its commercial work, made the negative between 1918 and 1920. The plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural decay of its original coating, a common condition in glass negatives of this age.
