Car No. 15 of the New Haven & West Haven Horse Railroad Company stands in a car barn yard in this June 1892 photograph. Such yards were where streetcars were stored, cleaned, and repaired, and where the horses that pulled them were kept between runs. By 1892, American cities were beginning to replace horse power with electric trolleys, so pictures like this one record a transportation system that was already passing into history. The view gives a close look at the heavy wooden cars and the working yard that supported them.
