Dated April 21, 1924, this glass negative shows an Easter egg rolling in Washington, D.C., held on the Monday after Easter, when families gathered to roll dyed eggs down a grassy slope. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that photographed the capital and its visitors in the early twentieth century, made the picture. Its location title was added from information on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified. Look for the streaks and blemishes across the glass, which come from deterioration of the original coatings rather than from the scene itself.
