Taken on April 5, 1926, the day after Easter Sunday, this glass negative records the White House during its Easter festivities. Easter Monday gatherings on the South Lawn, including the children's egg roll, were a long-standing Washington tradition by the 1920s. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented the capital for decades, often captured such public occasions. The streaks and blemishes visible on the glass come from deterioration of the original coatings, not from the scene itself.
