Men stand beside bales of cotton in Edmond, Oklahoma, with teams of horses and wagons lined up in front of the town's cotton gin. The scene captures a working day at a gin, where raw cotton from surrounding farms was cleaned, pressed into bales, and readied for shipment. Cotton ginning was a central part of Oklahoma's agricultural economy in the early twentieth century, and the horse-drawn wagons show how much of that trade still depended on animal power and manual labor. The caption card gives no date, so the photograph is best understood as a record of a rural commercial routine in the state's cotton country.
