The scene is anchored by the Ladau Cab building, which stands beside the railroad yards in St. Louis, with a line of horse-drawn wagons parked in front. The print is undated in the catalog, with only a "189-?" note indicating the 1890s as the likely period. By then St. Louis was a major rail and river freight center, and teams of horses still did much of the work of moving goods between depots and city businesses. The picture shows how closely that work depended on animal power, years before motor trucks took over the job.
