Titled with the period spelling "Tibarias," this color lithograph shows the town of Tiberias on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, with the view turned toward Lebanon. David Roberts sketched the scene during his journey through the region in 1838 and 1839, and Louis Haghe transferred those drawings to stone for *The Holy Land*, a series published in London between 1842 and 1845. Herod Antipas founded Tiberias around 20 CE, and by the time Roberts visited it was a small lakeside town. Prints like this one gave European readers a popular pictorial record of biblical places they were unlikely to see in person.
