A farm tractor is the main subject here, not an airplane, and its title says it was built to meet 1914 Army specifications and fitted with a 110 Gyro engine. The photograph was taken in Mineola, on Long Island, where the open Hempstead Plains became an early center of American aviation. The airplane subject tag suggests the picture links the tractor to the aircraft gathering in those same fields. It is a useful record of how military planning around 1914 reached into ordinary farm machinery.
