The record names the White House entrance itself rather than the whole executive mansion, so the view centers on the threshold that visitors and officials passed through. The building had housed presidents since John Adams moved in in 1800, and the north approach gained a covered carriage porch during the 1902 renovation. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed American cities and landmarks for sale to tourists in the early twentieth century. It is dated between 1910 and 1920, during the Taft and Wilson years.
