A narrow stairway winding through the inside of the statue is the subject of this print, a part of the monument most visitors never saw up close. The copper skin of the statue was hung on an internal iron framework designed by Gustave Eiffel's firm, and stairs like these climbed within that structure toward the crown. The record credits Jeannette Griffith as the photographer, but the caption card's details are unverified and no date is recorded. Its tags, including electricity, stairways and architecture, point to the interest in the statue as an engineering feat.
