A Beta Theta Pi fraternity house on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor is the subject here, recorded around 1908 on an 8 x 10 inch glass negative. By the first decade of the 1900s, fraternity clubhouses were a familiar part of college life across the country, giving members a place to live, dine and socialize. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this view, sold scenes of American towns, universities and landscapes to travelers and publishers, so the picture also shows how a campus institution presented itself to the public at the time.
