Hotel Flanders is the focus of this Philadelphia street view, recorded on an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sent crews across the country from the 1890s into the 1920s to photograph cities, hotels and streets for sale as views and postcards, made the image. Dated between 1900 and 1010, the plate reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado, and it preserves a clear record of a commercial streetscape at the turn of the century.
