Few buildings in Philadelphia are as closely tied to the Religious Society of Friends as the Arch Street Meeting House, which stood at Fourth and Arch Streets near the city's old center. Completed in 1804, it hosted the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the body that guided Quaker affairs across the region. This view dates to about 1908 and comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which issued photographs of American towns and landmarks in large numbers. Two nearly identical negatives survive, suggesting the photographer made more than one exposure of the same facade.
