Help yourself" is a 1937 silkscreen poster sponsored by the Federal theater Project, one of the Works Progress Administration's arts programs, and its subject is theatrical productions in California. The Federal theater Project put unemployed actors, directors, and stagehands back to work during the Depression, and its productions were advertised with posters like this one. Silkscreen was a relatively inexpensive method that let the WPA print bold, flat-colored designs in quantity, so the poster reflects both the program's public-outreach goals and the technique that made such wide distribution possible.
