Marshall Field's flagship on State Street anchored Chicago's downtown shopping district, and this 8 by 10 inch glass negative records the store and the street in the years around 1907 to 1910. Marshall Field & Company was one of the largest department stores in the country, known for its grand interiors, including the Tiffany glass dome over its main rotunda. The Detroit Publishing Company issued views of American cities and scenic places for commercial and promotional use, and the record suggests the photographer may have been Hans Behm.
