Labeled ZR 1 on the negative sleeve, this glass plate most likely shows the United States Navy's first rigid airship, the Shenandoah, which was built on a German Zeppelin-derived design and first flew in 1923. The September 22, 1923 date comes from a related negative rather than this one, and the title rests on unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the sleeve. The streaks and blemishes visible across the glass are the result of natural deterioration in the original coatings, a common condition for plates of this age.
