Dwight Davis appears here in an aviation setting on September 18, 1923, according to a title written on the negative sleeve that the record describes as unverified. Davis is better known as the tennis player who donated the trophy that became the Davis Cup, and he later served as Secretary of War. The National Photo Company worked in Washington in the early twentieth century, recording officials, events and newsworthy scenes. The record also notes streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from deterioration in the original coatings.
