Titled "It's Our Flag. Fight for It. Work for It," this 1915 color lithograph is a numbered recruiting poster by the artist Guy Lipscombe, printed by Henry Jenkinson Ltd. of Kirkstall, Leeds, and London. In 1915 Britain still relied on volunteers to fill its armies, and posters like this one linked enlistment and war work to loyalty to the national flag. Pairing "fight" with "work" reflects a wartime message that labor at home mattered as much as service at the front. Its tall format, about 151 by 98 centimeters, suited the large display posters put up on public walls.
