Taken at the White House on December 12, 1924, this picture shows Minister G. Simopoulos of Greece with J. Butler Wright. The image survives as a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that worked in Washington in the early twentieth century and photographed official life in the capital. Diplomatic visits and ceremonies at the executive mansion drew steady press interest, and the studio's large output makes its images a useful record of who came and went. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of the original coating, so the plate's surface shows its age.
