Few pictures of foreign callers at the White House from the mid-1920s show the formality of the occasion as clearly as this one, which records Ambassador Pueyrredón with the Argentine Naval Commission on May 11, 1925. Honorio Pueyrredón represented Argentina in Washington during those years, and visiting naval delegations were a familiar part of diplomatic life in the capital. The picture comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented officials, visitors and public buildings on glass negatives in the early twentieth century. Faint streaks and blemishes across the glass come from deterioration in the original coatings, a common trait of negatives of this age.
