Tupelo Point juts into Lake Waban on the grounds of Wellesley College, the women's college founded in 1870 in Massachusetts, and this 8 x 10 inch glass negative captures that shoreline around 1908. The Detroit Publishing Company made such views for sale as travel souvenirs and promotional prints, so its images show how the campus and its landscape were presented to a national audience in the early twentieth century. The negative later passed to the State Historical Society of Colorado, which gave it to the Library of Congress in 1949.
