Rock Creek Park, the wooded valley of Rock Creek in northwest Washington, is the subject named on this glass negative, though the title comes from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the plate or its sleeve. Congress established the park in 1890, and by the period this negative likely dates to, between 1909 and 1923, its ravines and creekside trails were a popular escape from the city. The National Photo Company documented the capital in those years, and the streaks and blemishes on the glass reflect natural deterioration of the original coating.
