A groundbreaking for the Masonic Temple in Takoma Park, Maryland, is the subject here, dated November 12, 1924, according to the negative's unverified notes. Takoma Park straddled the District line and grew quickly in the 1910s and 1920s, and fraternal lodges often built halls to serve expanding neighborhoods. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio active roughly from 1906 to 1932, recorded much of the capital region's street and civic life. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coatings.
