Few buildings on the North Sea island of Sylt are as closely tied to its seaside visitors as the Kurhaus, the health resort that drew guests to Westerland in the 1890s. This print uses the photochrom process, which the Photoglob company of Zurich developed to turn photographs into glossy, saturated color images, and Detroit Publishing Co. sold such views in the United States. The item's own label reads "Kurhaus Kampen," though the catalog places the building at Westerland, a reminder that Sylt's several villages each had their own tourist facilities.
